Subject: FW: March 26 meeting with North Beach neighborhood
Date: Tuesday, March 19, 2013 5:27 PM

Dear Mr. Carnes -

Thank you very much for your email, and for your continued engagement
in Central Subway issues as they affect North Beach. We've come a
long way since last summer, when North Beach was faced with a plan
that would have disrupted Columbus Avenue 24/7 for more than a year.
As you know, I shared the community's concern about that plan, and I
am pleased that with support from merchants and residents we have
worked with the SFMTA to relocate the extraction to the Pagoda site.
We expect that demolition at the Pagoda will begin in May.

I have spoken to the SFMTA regarding the next community meeting in
North Beach, which will focus on the SFMTA's construction plans.
Those plans are indevelopment. The SFMTA is working with its
contractors to nail down the specifics of the demolition plan for
the Pagoda building as well as the construction of the excavation
shaft. With assistance from the Office of Economic and Workforce
Development, the SFMTA is in regular contact with nearby merchants
to hear their concerns.

To keep the community informed, I expect that we will schedule a
meeting in mid-April. I will be sure to inform you of the date as
soon as it is set. I appreciate the invitation to your meeting on
March 26, but am unable to attend.

David
