Cost overruns

April 10, 2013

Just a few days ago updated cost estimate documents were received from MTA. It seems construction costs for the Pagoda option have risen from $9.15 million to about $13.7 million.

In the costs document, fourth page, the total is $10.6 million. Added to the $3.1 million to be paid to the site owner for lease and use, the new grand total is $13.7 million.

We have all had doubts about MTA using a proposed $9.15 million from Muni bus funds. Now it's nearly 50% higher, and may grow even more once construction plans are finalized.

In addition, the costs document is dated 3/1/13, well before our 3/26/13 neighborhood meeting (MTA was invited to this meeting but declined our invitation). We received the documents because of a Public Records Request.

At the upcoming April 17 neighborhood meeting with MTA, they have promised to answer neighborhood questions, and the rising costs and lack of timely information seem like ones that should be brought to light.
